It is time to stand up for our progressive principles and our progressive candidates!
Friends, I watched a Ted Talk the other day by Dr. Angela Lee Duckworth, a teacher and psychologist, who was trying to predict success. Through all of her studies, she found that the common link between successful people is grit. She defined grit as passion and perseverance towards a long term goal. I am here to tell you, folks, that our progressive candidates have grit!
All of them had to employ grit to better themselves and their community.
How do I know that they have grit?
Because I know it takes grit to be a business woman helping military families endure moves and how to integrate into the Tidewater community.
I know it takes grit to be an education administrator who fights for equal student treatment.
I know it takes grit to open your own law practice.
I know it takes grit to be candidate and a working student.
I know it takes grit to provide spiritual comfort to the hopeless.
I know it takes grit to teach under seemingly insurmountable odds during a historic era of school defunding.
I know it takes grit to serve this nation’s call for over 25 years.
I know that it takes grit to build meaningful community connections while enforcing our laws.
I know it takes grit to run for office in a region that appears to be blood red.
I am here to tell you that our candidates also have the courage and grit to become our next delegates and constitutional officers for authentic change!
You see, our slate has something that this district has not seen in a long time. Authentic, community minded, inclusive, strong progressive candidates who can lead the people of this region and commonwealth to shared opportunity and prosperity. I am certain that they will put people over politics to generate positive outcomes for this community.
I know that they will work to counter the regressive agenda that aims to render our government impotent and rob all citizens of opportunity. An agenda that robs us of shared prosperity. An agenda that unequally applies justice and targets our marginalized neighbors. An agenda that robs us of the basic tenets of governance and community building.
We have two choices today and in the coming months, my friends. We can either choose to stand up or stand down. I say to you it is time to stand up! It is our time to rise for progressive principles! Our time to stand up for fully funded schools and well-paid educators! It is our time to stand up for equitable profit sharing and fair living wages! It is our time to stand up for affordable healthcare for all Virginians! It is our time to stand up for justice equality! It is our time to stand up to protect our environment!
It is our time to stand up for our progressive incumbents and candidates who will fight for us, for all Virginians, who will make government work for us again! It is time to canvass, call, write, and discourse for our progressive principles and the candidates who espouse them. It is time to stand up with our next District Delegates and Constitutional Officers. It is time to let flow the tides of victory!
